STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Crazy for Colorful Shorts

Style Advice of the Week

Even though the majority of my closet consists of clothing that’s black, I’ve always admired outfits that incorporate pops of color. As the weather has been getting warmer, I’ve been trying to get in on the trend myself by wearing colorful pieces here and there. It’s definitely fun getting to play around with color and I’ve found that my favorite way to dress for spring is by wearing a great pair of vibrant shorts.

I love how this Fashionista’s shorts are not only colorful, but uniquely patterned as well. They’re not overly bright and flashy but still manage to get her noticed when she’s out and about. Her tribal print bottoms incorporate teal, purple, red, brown and white. This initially sounds like a weird combination but oddly works really well together thanks to her simple white T-shirt.

Even though her shorts are fun enough on their own, I’m also obsessed with her accessories. Since her top is so simple, she spices up her neckline with a gold statement necklace that works well with the colors in her shorts. She keeps everything else minimal by wearing a simple diamond ring, proving that not every outfit needs an extensive amount of jewelry to make it pop. Not only that, but I couldn’t ignore her fabulous periwinkle nail color, which is a shade that can be seen on everything this season.

Though I personally don’t own a great pair of colorful tribal shorts, I own a pair of shorts in just about every other solid color. A couple of seasons ago, I was lucky enough to snag a pair of sky blue faux leather Free People shorts. I’m obsessed with them because they show off my legs but offer a different alternative to the gazillions of shorts out there with frayed hems. Since they’re so clean, they look particularly stylish when paired with a top that has an asymmetrical hemline, like a flowy open back tank top.

I think my favorite part about the colorful shorts trend is that it’s so easy to incorporate into any wardrobe. Shorts in eccentric colors like turquoise and magenta look so hot with neutral tops in black or white. With that being said, don’t be afraid to wear a colorful shirt as well; I love the combination of hot pink and mint. Nevertheless, colorful shorts are more unexpected than wearing a burst of color on top, and in my opinion, a lot more fun as well.
