STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Craving Kimonos

There is no question that it’s time for us to whip out our spring wardrobe. While you’re constantly reading about new spring arrivals from your favorite stores, you may be craving something that’s different and a standout piece to add to your wardrobe this spring. Have you seen or heard of this new style trend, the kimono?

I do not know how I could have a wardrobe without this stylish piece. When you normally think of kimonos, you tend to revert back to the traditional clothing found in predominantly Japanese culture. Fashion designers have turned this conservative and sophisticated clothing into a new staple cardigan you have to own. It is much lighter and freer flowing piece that you could wear this on a number of occasions. Fashionistas/os can wear a kimono to class, shopping, Coachella or on date nights with the girlfriends. Luckily we can get these in a variety of styles such as short sleeve or long sleeve and with fringe, in tribal or floral print.

From this week’s Fashionista, you can see why all of us need to own one of these. The Fashionista stuck with a very monochromatic color scheme but used her kimono cardigan as a pop of color and to pay homage to spring. She paired her kimono with matching black cropped leggings, a V-neck shirt and her favorite and comfortable Sperry Top-Siders.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Wear something floral because it’s spring! The kimono is flowy and lightweight unlike something heavy from the winter. It’s casual enough to wear to class and dressy enough to wear out with your friends!”
