STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Craving Kimonos

Kimonos are back in full force this summer and probably my favorite trend yet. This style took off last summer and is back in many new retailers. The kimono cardigan is proving especially popular for beach goers, festival revellers and trendy Fashionistas. There’s a reason why kimono cardigans have become the warm weather layer of choice. They are structured to be swingy, loose and often adorned with embroidery and tassels. They perfectly capture that free-spirited vibe and effortless look we channel at this time of year. So pack away your military jacket and heavy sweaters to embrace the breezy brilliance of a kimono.

Spotted while shopping, our Fashionista sported a relaxed summer look complete with an oversized black T-shirt paired with her take on the trendy Birkenstock sandal. To dress up this comfy style, she threw on a long, tasseled kimono. Her kimono cardigan is a little different from the traditional floral kimonos. But this just shows the many variations of patterns and colors the kimono cardigan now has. She also noted that she dressed up her look by adding a long tassel necklace as well as some arm candy. I want to also highlight her amazing cross-body bag inspired by the Marcie cross-body bag by Chloé.

One thing all my Fashionistas on a budget can appreciate is the value of the kimono’s versatility. The kimono started out as a beach cover-up for many and has quickly turned into the focal piece of one’s outfit. This piece can be worn with almost anything, anywhere. As you will see on many Coachella Fashionistas, the kimono can be that extra punch to your outfit by pairing it with a romper, dress, crop top or high-waisted shorts. The kimono can also go from day to night with a simple switch of the pieces you have paired with it. You can dress up a kimono cardigan by styling it with a flowy tank, skinny dark jeans, matching pumps and different jewelry pieces.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “You never have to sacrifice being comfortable to look cute. You can easily have your cake and eat it too! Flowy staple pieces like a kimono or a long flowy tank can be super light and comfy yet still look put together paired with jeans or even simple leggings. Accessories can also glam up any outfit too. So layering bracelets and necklaces can make it look like you spent a lot of time on your outfit when you only mixed and matched various items.”
