As a ridiculously broke college student, I often fantasize about what it would be like to be ballin’ in money. I dream about vacationing in the Hamptons or some exotic island out in the middle of the ocean, which to my dismay, probably won’t happen for another dozen years or so. For those of you in the same boat, that doesn’t mean we can’t pretend to be at some highly sought after beach destination. Fake it until you make it and pretend you’re at the Hamptons by wearing outfits composed of cool hued pieces.
It’s typical for people vacationing in the Hamptons to dress in light neutral tones and shades of blue. This means it’s normal to wear white from head to toe, which is an idea that would normally scare me since it’s impossible for me to eat a meal without dropping half of it on my shirt. However, now that I’ve finally adopted more grown up and lady-like eating habits, it’s totally chic to pair cuffed, distressed white denim with a lightweight and sheer button-down. Since I’ve always been a lover of black, I like to stay true to my colors by wearing a dark bralette as the bottom layer.
This Fashionista demonstrates that white-on-white isn’t the only combination that screams beachy vacation life. Her baby blue Brandy Melville skirt looks adorable with her subtly cropped gray tank top. The color combination is crisp, yet still manages to look easy and casual. Like most girls on campus, she keeps her accessories to a bare minimum by just wearing a basic Hamsa necklace and a couple of fun rings.
If she wanted to spice up her outfit, a statement necklace would pull it all together. An ivory and gold stone necklace would look great while simultaneously managing to keep her overall look neutral. A pop of color like bright yellow or cobalt wouldn’t hurt either. Her flip flops are basic and comfy, but a pair of strappy sandals would take the outfit to the next level.
Colors like white, gray, blue and green are cool hues that will make any outfit beach vacation ready. Keeping pieces within this spectrum will pretty much guarantee a well put together outfit, allowing you to feel confident with your pairings!
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I like dressing in neutrals, but black and navy can be a bit too heavy and dark in the summertime. However, the colors of my outfit (blue and gray) allow me to lighten and brighten things up. I definitely like incorporating white too!”
