STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Cozy Knits

February 10th, 2015 at 2:00am

When the weather takes a turn for the worse, we typically want nothing more than to cuddle up under our duvets and dream of warmer weather. For those of us who venture from our warm nests, we seek the comfort of chunky, cozy knits as our armor against the chill.

It is definitely that time of year to pull our thick layers to the front of the closet, bring them out of storage or even go shopping to fill your closet with these cozy comforts. Thick knits are no longer limited to sweaters. You can find them to fit any element of your wardrobe; cardigans, scarves, mittens and headwear! With all of these options, it makes it so much easier to get dressed in the morning. All you have to do is pick a piece and build around it.

Having a hard time picking just one piece? Do what this Fashionista did and pick multiple knits with different textures. First, she started with a basic under layer consisting of a tan sweater, cuffed jeans and matching leather combat boots. Even if the weather warms up, she can take off her cardigan and scarf and still have a chic ensemble. However, for a more notable look, she put on a bright, patterned cardigan and a blue scarf that helps bring out the darker blues in the cardigan. With all of these warm layers, this Fashionista is ready to make the trek across the frigid campus to her heated lecture halls.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “During this season, I prefer more neutral colors or black. I like having one part of my outfit pop with color and act as the bullseye, yet not be too busy. Layering also works well for being on campus; you have to stay warm walking from each place, but the classrooms can get very hot!”
