Most of the time it is extremely difficult to get out of bed during the winter. To me it seems as though my body is actually being held captive by my flannel sheets. The below-freezing Montana weather doesn’t help much either, which is why I find myself constantly turning to my trusty leggings and sometimes even…sweatpants. But we forget that keeping it simple can actually be very chic. This week’s Fashionista stays classically casual in the cool weather, showing us that you don’t need much to stay warm and look put together at the same time.
What I love about this Fashionista’s look is her beautiful, black coat. A coat is a wonderful staple piece in your wardrobe throughout the cooler months, and can save a lot of time when trying to put together an outfit. This Fashionista keeps it simple with dark, distressed skinny-jeans (a very stylish substitute for sweatpants), but uses accessories to style up her look. Her red sunglasses bring a pop of color to her outfit and her leopard print scarf is a perfect piece for staying warm as well as adding interest. Lastly, she is wearing nude flats, which are very versatile as they are both feminine but casual at the same time.
To achieve this Fashionista’s look, find a coat that adds to your outfit. I find that the winter is exceedingly more enjoyable when I’m not dreading putting on an ugly down jacket that previously belonged to my cousin. Keep what you’re wearing underneath your coat simple, like a basic waffle knit sweater and some nice dark jeggings; that way you can save time and have some fun accessorizing! Hats, scarves, sunglasses, they are all fair game. If your wearing a classic black coat try spicing up your outfit with colorful or patterned accessories, but if your wearing a patterned or brightly colored coat, I would recommend sticking to neutral accessories.
This Fashionista’s outfit shows us how put together you can look when keeping it simple, especially when you have a nice coat in your wardrobe. Next time you find yourself reaching for your trusty fleece-lined sweats, try turning to a classic coat instead. This way you can achieve a more polished look while while keeping cozy in the cool weather at the same time.
