STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Comfort and Style

December 5th, 2016 at 2:06am

It can be hard to be fashionable and completely comfortable all of the time. I know I always make sacrifices with style over comfort when it comes to shoes. A pointed toe? A sky high heel? Count me in (count pain in too)! But sometimes you don’t have to choose one over the other. You can have both, in the words of the Old El Paso taco girl.

What caught my eye with this Fashionista was her Harry Potter socks. I could see them from all the way across the plaza, and I dashed over to her as if I was riding a Firebolt of my own. Harry Potter always reminds me of Christmas, and as we delve into magical December and its holidays, this Fashionista kicked off this month for me in just the right way. Paired with her flashy socks were well worn combat boots that I could tell perfectly fit her feet. It may have taken a while for her to get them that way, but she has worn them just enough to achieve maximum comfort. Drawstring black shorts and a mustard knitted sweater top off her look of coziness. The dyed red tips of her hair and golden sweater are even Gryffindor house colors, in case you were wondering. Perhaps J.K. Rowling always meant to start a fashion trend.

My style advice of the week? As finals week approaches, you don’t have to worry about sacrificing comfort for fashion. A warm oversized sweater with stylish and snug boots can achieve the look you want. Or try adding an interesting headband to a slouchy sweatpants look or fun personality revealing socks.
