STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color Outside the Lines

When we were children, we were taught how to match our clothes; neutrals with a touch of one color is how it works, in simple terms. Even as adults, some of us are stuck in the matching rut. Many people, myself included, resort to excluding color all together and constantly wearing black. Although wearing black is fabulous, a wardrobe without color is boring. Today, I am challenging all Fashionistas and Fashionistos to step out of their comfort zone and try color-blocking.

The best way to color-block your outfits is to use colors at opposite ends of the color wheel. For example, a pink top and blue pants are good while a green tank top and a yellow skirt are not so fab. Personally, I think sticking to two main colors is the best way to go. This Fashionista conquered this trend easily with her bright red top and royal blue shorts. Blue and red is a fabulous combination for the summer. She separated her colors by adding a brown chunky belt to her shorts and wearing a nude pair of sandals. If you combine too many colors without a good balance of neutrals, you may end up looking more like a clown than a trendsetter.

With this trend, the cleaner, the better. Let the colors be the main event and don’t go overboard with accessorizing. This Fashionista went with some chunky bracelets that complemented her color choices, and a dainty necklace. The most important aspect of a bright outfit like this one is confidence. Today’s fashion is all about taking risks and being bold. Put on your biggest smile before you leave the house and strut knowing that you decided to be an adventurous individual today!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Regardless of their color, the two pieces just looked good together. Sometimes, the least suspecting colors will actually complement each other quite well!”
