Style Advice of the Week

At the start of every year, Pantone, a company used for color matching by graphic and fashion designers alike, gives the title “Color of the Year” to one color. In January, announced that 2014’s color of the year is “Radiant Orchid.”  In my opinion, Pantone chose a great color for this year. Spring finally seems like it is here to stay, so I’m predicting we will be seeing a lot more of this color in the near future.

I spotted this Fashionista sporting the color of the year on a perfect spring day. She is wearing a radiant orchid cropped mesh top, with a matching tank top underneath. She paired her orchid top with a pair of dark wash skinny jeans, and patterned combat boots.  Her ivory ruffled scarf adds a feminine touch without being too bulky and thick for a warm spring day.

Orchid is a great color to add to your spring wardrobe. For being a fairly feminine color, there is a lot you can do with it besides frilly dresses and floral prints. Wearing a bold, more saturated orchid hue and pairing it with leather accessories will make for an edgy look. Using a muted, soft orchid color like the one this Fashionista used will give you a soft, feminine style. If you’re still uneasy about working this color into your wardrobe, there’s a whole collection of make-up and nail polishes dedicated to the 2014 color of the year on Sephora. Whether it’s a bright orchid nail polish or a muted orchid flowy top, Pantone’s color of the year should be high on everyone’s spring clothing wishlist!
