STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color Cues

January 21st, 2015 at 2:00am

It is the dead of winter here in Michigan, where temperatures are dipping as low as single digits and even into the negatives. Bundling up is our first priority. When trying to cover every inch of bare skin, sometimes style can be put on the back burner.

Fear not! One of the easiest ways to add style on these frigid days is to add cute hints of color in your outfit. This is fun because it can be as bold or as quiet and simple as you want. Cooler colors, such as purples and blues, are great accents in this weather. Some people are more daring, such as this Fashionista, who smartly wears the color red.

Some ways to incorporate colors into outfits are by adding accessories. This plaid scarf is cool because it is not just red, but has hints of other colors that are matched in the rest of the outfit in the sweater, coat and layered collared shirt. Another way is with makeup. Many people would opt for a bold lip during an evening out, but who’s to say it can’t be an everyday look as well. Finish off your look with your favorite jeans or sweater. These can also be areas to add bursts of color. In this weather, any cold accessory such as mittens, leg warmers, earmuffs or headbands will work.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t pay any attention to trends. Take risks, and be yourself.”
