A sign of summer and warm weather is here! This trend reminds me of all things fun in the sun and the crazy colorful adventures it brings. From going to an amusement park, walking around town or going out to dinner, rocking a pair of colored shorts can add a little life into an outfit.
We saw these shorts first on the runways last spring in the form of free-flowing, loose shorts. The trends began appearing in retail stores during the transition into the spring season and have been heavily promoting the style. Since the trend’s first arrival, it has expanded beyond the nylon and polyester fabrics used for the free flowing shorts to denim, cotton and spandex. Aside from the typical length, the shorts now come in high-waisted, low rise and much more.
Three reasons why this trend has stuck around and stood out: bold, bright and vibrant. The boldness and brightness create a crisp image that the eye is drawn to. Some might argue the vibrant shades might be a little distracting, but with the right balance the look can be pulled off by anybody. For those a little more daring, color blocking is perfect to match this trend, and for those a more timid it can add the right punch to a classy look.
I think my favorite trait of these shorts is how it can easily become the statement piece of an outfit. The bright color already grabs so much attention it makes completing an outfit effortless. This trait immediately caught my eye as seen by the Fashionistas who sported them across campus.
By using the shorts as the statement piece for the outfit, she created a solid base for any print to sit on top of. She went with the denim fabric to keep it casual and comfortable. She paired them with a tribal printed tank. The turquoise color of the shorts helps bring out the small detailing in the shirt and relaxed the print, balancing it out. For a hint of sparkle and shine, she added a bracelet set following the tribal theme. She wrapped up the outfit by sporting a subtle tan sandal and a crocheted cross-body bag.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Be YOU! Wear whatever you’re comfortable in, and if you like something then you should just wear it. Honestly, that’s what I do, and I now love getting ready in the morning!”
