STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color-Blocking

It is fair to say that we have had our fill of winter and the dark colors it brings with it here at Kent State University. These bold colors caught my eye and were a clear refreshing reminder that spring is on its way. The idea of color-blocking can be intimidating to people, probably because of the thin line this fashion statement straddles. It is hard to decide if two or more colors coordinate together. The final product can either be an eyesore that clashes or a chic way to incorporate trendy colors into your wardrobe. This Fashionista without a doubt has found the perfect combination.

I spotted this Fashionista on her way to class. Her statement coat has a deconstructed silhouette and utilizes marsala, the Pantone color of the year, making it perfectly on-trend. She pairs her bold coat with mustard yellow skinny jeans and a pair of black combat boots. She completes the outfit with a pair of oversized glasses and a leather cross-body bag that is perfect for carrying school books and anything you could need for the day.

There are so many ways to incorporate color-blocking into your wardrobe. It can be as little as with stacking multicolored bracelets or as big as a head to toe outfit such as this featured look. If you are feeling especially bold, pick colors that aren’t usually paired together like red and pink. Color-blocking is all about breaking rules and daring to be different, so have fun with it.
