STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color-Blocking Is Cool

July 8th, 2015 at 2:00am

Color–blocking is not new to the scene. It goes as far back as the ’80s, with icons such as LL Cool J and Madonna mixing and matching unique, colorful threads in their music videos. The trick to color-blocking would be to not be afraid of the outcome. You shouldn’t want to try so hard to make something look a certain way; it should flow effortlessly and reflect your style, however you see it fit. It takes a special, brave kind of person to color-block—one who isn’t afraid of taking risks.

This Fashionisto wore a blue paisley patterned button-down collar T-shirt with a pair of coral chino shorts. Also incorporated into his wardrobe is a pair of black Clarks loafers with blue shoestrings and a brown leather strap Fossil watch. The clashing of the rich, dark blue shirt with a white paisley pattern paired with a cool, coral colored chinos looks good together. Although complete opposites, the colors coincide well with one another.

This Fashionisto’s outfit isn’t exactly the color-blocking ensemble from the ’80s that you’d catch your parents in while trying to imitate the celebrities from their time. It is, however, more of this century’s version.

Color-blocking is all about experimenting. As we can see with this Fashionisto, a little of white on blue with pink, black and brown leather is harmless. All of the different colors worn are what make him stand out in a favorable way.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I just go with the flow. I’m all about trying new things and wearing what I feel best suits me. You just have to have that confidence to know that you can pull it off, is all.”
