STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Classic and Simple for Spring

Style Advice of the Week

Now that the fashion show season is over and we are now moving into the spring season, the next wave of fashion trends are starting to form (especially on my Twitter newsfeed). It’s interesting to see what was presented during the different fashion shows. A highly popular trend on the runways was outerwear paired with a dress or skirt. This silhouette is exemplified with this week’s Fashionista’s look. She knows how to dress for the spring season; show a little skin yet keep warm with a coat.

The sweater-styled coat paired with a skirt was an aspect of the Calvin Klein Collection fall 2014 ready-to-wear show during New York Fashion week last month. The coat matched with bare leg look was also a style of the Iris Van Herpen fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection that showed during Paris Fashion week just a couple of weeks ago. This silhouette is appropriate for the spring because it complements the cool, sunny weather.

Both of these elements are expressed in this Fashionista’s outfit. Her black monochromatic coat looks comfortable and casually stylish. It might have to do with the fact that its cuff detailing resembles a sweater. Just like her coat, a sweater coat is classic way to stay warm while looking relaxed during this season when temperatures fluctuate from cool to warm.

This Fashionista also sports a hobo handbag. This bag is trendy because of its name and style. Furthermore, a double-handle hobo bag is a particular type of the bag. Hobo bags are bohemian in nature and, alongside a sweater coat, expresses a fashionable relaxed look. As the season changes, a sweater coat is a comfortable way to stay stylish while layering over your favorite dresses and skirts for the spring!
