It’s getting to that point in the semester when comfort becomes the prevailing theme. We’re settling into our course loads, schedules and all that comes along with the season. And, while it seems like comfort is more important than anything, there is a way to make sure you aren’t sacrificing your chic factor: cover up with chambray.
A carefree vibe and infectious smile weren’t the only things I found this Fashionista sporting. Starting her outfit off with a late-summer favorite, she wore a floral dress with a dark base. This is always a great pick around the beginning of the fall is because it can be disguised as an autumn piece so easily. It gives just enough coverage before the autumn chill sets in. To complement the feminine aesthetic of such a dress, this Fashionista made sure to include some warm-toned hints of gold. From her strapped glitter sandals to her leather messenger bag and Marc Jacobs boldface watch, the accessories of her outfit coordinated to give the appearance of a warm autumn look.
In order to conceal what could be considered a staple summer dress on its own, this Fashionista utilized what I consider to be one of the most versatile pieces in a Fashionista/o’s wardrobe: the chambray shirt. Commonly mistaken for denim, chambray is a light linen fabric that often comes in hues of blue to give the illusion of worn denim. I love the way it looks because it adds a rustic aesthetic that looks especially chic during the fall. Whether you choose a “denim-on-denim” look or a simple pairing with a tweed skirt, chambray can always do the job. And, when you are looking to maximize your wardrobe by cleverly sneaking in pieces, chambray can go over everything. It is, in essence, a go-to basic piece that can be worn open, closed, belted, loose and even tied around the waist if you are daring enough. It has that soft and worn feel that a Fashionista/o longs for during the fall. The options when wearing a piece like this are endless and you will feel more creative just by throwing it over your favorites.
Now more than ever, we should be hunting for that next cozy fall staple. After all, we are Fashionistas/os and students, ones who should value chic-ness in addition to comfort.
