STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Casual Cool for Class

As the weather gets chilly, the layers begin to pile on. The most important part, of course, is the outermost layer: the jacket. Suede, denim, fur (faux or not)–the sky’s the limit. I’m always on the lookout for the best coats and jackets; it’s my absolute favorite part of the colder months.

On a particularly chilly day in San Francisco, I spotted a Fashionisto on campus with an eye-catching, comfortable look. I have always been a fan of simple, versatile pieces, and a T-shirt, jeans and sneakers combination doesn’t have to be boring when paired with the right jacket.

This Fashionisto slipped on a corduroy, sherpa-lined jacket for a vintage feel. The vibrant hue draws attention to the otherwise simple ensemble, and the sherpa lining provides ample warmth. A corduroy jacket is a great, winter-appropriate upgrade from a staple denim jacket. The basic black T-shirt he is wearing, along with a pair of light wash jeans in a slim, faded style ensure that the jacket gets noticed. He then pegs the hem of his jeans, which polishes up the casual vibe. This Fashionisto then finishes off the look with a pair of white Converse. The sneakers are scuffed and worn, adding character to the outfit.

Overall, the ensemble is cool and casual, perfect for a chilly fall day on campus spent studying for midterms. Fashionistas and Fashionistos alike can show off a cozy fall staple such as this jacket with their favorite pair of jeans and sneakers. For added warmth and comfort, add a basic hooded sweatshirt underneath. Layering is what fall and winter are all about, after all.
