STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Casual Chic

January 28th, 2015 at 2:10am

I recently enjoyed brunch and a walk through Seattle with this cute Fashionista. While the brunch was delicious, her outfit was what was most memorable about the day. I was instantly drawn to her outfit’s subtle details, which made it interesting and fun on this grey day. This Fashionista knows how to perfectly put together an outfit that is extremely simple yet the essence of chic minimalism.

To master her simple, yet put-together look, try pairing a pair of vintage-inspired, light wash skinny jeans with a simple gray top. This Fashionista’s top has a turtleneck collar, which is trendy and fashion-forward. Tucking your top in adds a polished feel, making this look clean and tidy. One of my favorite pieces to own is a sturdy, black boyfriend blazer. They are the perfect essential to throw over anything, from a casual to dressy outfit. Throwing an oversized blazer over her outfit adds structure and warmth on chilly winter days. Although her outfit is casual, throwing on the blazer adds just the right amount of polish and gives the outfit a classic, Audrey Hepburn feel. She chooses to accessorize with a simple pair of pearl earrings and instead focus on the handbag. This structured, oxblood purse is the perfect accessory for this simple outfit. Structured bags are my favorite because they add instant class to any outfit. Choosing one in a vibrant, rich color, such as oxblood, intensifies the overall look and has a very luxe feel to it. Lastly, she dresses down the look with a simple pair of crisp, black Converse. While the obvious approach to this outfit would be to wear a pair of black ballet flats, or perhaps, a pair of oxfords, adding a simple sneaker adds an unexpected twist, turning a predictable outfit into something eye-catching and memorable.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Focus on soft and simple pieces that are effortless and easy to throw on. Wear what makes you happy and comfortable. That way your confidence in your outfit will shine through.”
