While we may still be in the wintery month of January, those of us living in Southern California aren’t experiencing any frost, icy streets or breath-visibility. In Malibu, temperatures have been reaching eighty-five degrees (oddly) and it is warm enough for thirst-quenching smoothies, sunbathing and beach volleyball. When Pepperdine students are living across the street from one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, it is nearly impossible to resist the sounds of the soothing waves and soaring seagulls.
This Pepperdine Senior chose to make a pit-stop for the sunset before heading to a sorority meeting. Because it was mild weather (Malibu tends to stay sunny), she threw on a sundress. This student’s dress is turquoise like the wondrous water and clear skies. Lightweight dresses are staple in any Malibu girl’s wardrobe; they are perfect for the warm sunshine, but can also be paired with tights or an oversized sweater for chillier, windier evenings. Try accessorizing the outfit by adding a sparkly necklace- this Fashionista added a simple key necklace, which symbolizes her sorority.
This positive almost-graduate exemplifies another trend that many Pepperdine students support- ditching your shoes. With ideal temperatures and palm trees surrounding campus, many students choose to kick off their boots, sandals and high heels and opt for going bare. The sun-warmed cement and supple sand can only be fully appreciated through direct contact. Because this stylish California native plans on slipping on shoes before her meeting, she has chosen a pair of striped blue espadrilles. They are casual and cute, being made of cork and canvas.
While temperatures through out the nation are plummeting, the sun rays are as warm as they feel in mid-July in Malibu. Steal this Fashionista’s style by throwing on a sundress and head for SoCal for a quick thaw-out!
