Style Advice of the Week

Here at the University of Texas Pan-American, not all men wear ripped-off jeans with Converse. Not all of the athletes wear socks and sandals. Not all of the clean cut gents in suits are business majors.

We actually have a variety of stylish men around campus, which includes today’s Fashionisto. I’m lucky to share campaigns class with him, so the moment I saw his effortless look, I knew he would be part of my style advice.

He’s wearing a shawl collar cardigan with a round neck T-shirt, jeans and burgundy boots from ASOS. I like his style because it looks like he doesn’t care; yet he created an alternative and presentable look for a morning class with somber colors.

Burgundy is the perfect warm color for men and women this winter season. Burgundy shades took over the runway of Dolce&Gabbana, Ferragamo and Valentino, showing that this color works in the men’s collections perfectly.

Burgundy and oxblood red are similar colors, but to differentiate between them, let’s say that oxblood is more like maroon ocher and burgundy is more of a wine color. Personally, I’ve been using this burgundy color in a hat from Forever 21, skinny jeans from bebe and blouses. Thank God for well priced stores with quality clothing.

Today’s Fashionisto blew me away with his selection of boots because, as you can see, it brought personality to his gray pieces. Ladies can find something similar in ThreadSence or farfetch, and men can try these leather pair from Massimo Dutti.

Another thing to take notes on is the rolled-up jeans from the ankle, which you shouldn’t roll more than two times because it will look chubby. We’ve seen this trend since Grease with Danny Zucko, to DSQUARED² fall/winter 2012 preppy collection (one of my favorites, if I may add). When you’re using killer shoes and jeans a little bit longer than your legs, just roll them up to show off the jeans and the shoes.

Burgundy and gray are a subtle combination, but burgundy also looks good with navy blue, crème, black, prints and metallic.
