STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Breaking All The Rules

February 10th, 2015 at 2:00am

As we continue to get unseasonably warm weather here in Memphis, the more we can stop hiding our stylish outfits under mountains of coats, scarves, gloves and hats. More importantly, it allows us to show off how we break fashion rules day by day.

My personal philosophy is that there are no rules when it comes to fashion except for following dress codes based on certain events. This Fashionista broke the “neutrals don’t mix” rule (if you really want to call it a “rule.”)

Mixing neutrals can actually come together in a perfect outfit much like it did for this Fashionista. Neutrals are perfect for any occasion whether it’s hanging out with friends, going to class, a banquet or a formal event. The spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection of rag & bone showed us how neutrals can be worn for any occasion and how simple accessories can go a long way.

This Fashionista used only three colors to pull together a perfect look for class. Her graphic T-shirt hangs loose, bringing a relaxed look to the outfit, which can make sitting through classes a lot more comfortable. The cuffed jeans accentuate her black booties since they both hit at the ankles.

My favorite thing about this look are the accessories. Simple jewelry on the hands and wrists add a chic flare to the outfit. The hat is great for blocking out sun rays or covering a bad hair day. But the one thing the pulls this entire outfit together is the bag! The two-toned Lauren Ralph Lauren satchel and cross-body bag is absolutely gorgeous. It brings the perfect mix of black and brown as it highlights this Fashionista’s take on neutrals this season.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Bags are always a good way to spice up an outfit with color.”
