STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Borrowing From The Boys

March 10th, 2015 at 2:00am

Ever since Coco Chanel heavily borrowed from her boyfriend’s wardrobes back in the ’20s, male-inspired ensembles have pervaded women’s closets. They come with a sense of nostalgia, a feeling of warmth and extreme comfort; this is the epitome of a perfect outfit, and is especially helpful in the bone chilling cold.

This Fashionista does “menswear-inspired comfort” in the most chic manner possible. She is wearing a blue and white checked flannel shirt under a black peacoat and bright red flannel scarf. Her jeans are tucked into her boots, making for enough body hugging warmth from head to toe. The flannel on flannel ensemble is cozy and relaxed, while being appropriate enough for a full day of classes.

The flannel shirt, when paired with jeans and stilettos can be the perfect outfit for date night. For a look that seems like one only took ideas from their boyfriend, and not borrowed his clothes, this tailored jacket is the perfect alternative to a cardigan when paired with a crisp shirt and trousers. And to rock a trend that is more stolen than borrowed, a simple, oversized white oxford shirt worn with silk pants, ballet flats and tousled bed hair makes for the perfect Sunday brunch ensemble.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: “Warmth and relaxation! Considering midterms are on their way, and the cold doesn’t seem to leave, living in my boyfriend’s clothing is the best choice I’ve made. Pairing the roomy shirt with a pair of skinny jeans does the trick.”
