STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Borrowing from the Boys

Style Advice of the Week

In the wake of last month’s menswear fashion shows, many of us were left pondering how we could incorporate these runway trends into our own wardrobes. The menswear trend also found itself in many of the women’s pre-fall collections in the form of two piece suits and chunky loafers. In addition to being both practical and comfortable, menswear inspired pieces rarely go out of style. So, for this week I found my campus’ best-dressed Fashionisto, and I will be telling you how you can mix certain elements of his outfit into your own style.

The key element of his entire outfit is his jacket. I, myself, own a Barbour jacket, and it has proved to be an amazing investment. You can throw this jacket on over anything and look instantly pulled together. Its waxed exterior also enables it to be worn rain or shine. Check out this jacket in a women’s fit here.

This Fashionisto also pairs his Barbour with a printed button-down and skinny pants. Boden offers a wide variety of similar shirts for spring. To keep his head sheltered from freezing Swiss temperatures, he wears a burgundy beanie.

He finalizes his look with a pair of leather lace-up ankle boots. Madewell makes a similar pair of boots for women. For spring outfits, you can try Cole Haan’s colorful array of oxfords. Both of these shoes are a comfy alternative to heels.

Menswear pieces happen to be trendy at the moment, but they never go out of style. If you are looking for investment pieces or wardrobe staples, you have no need to look further than the men’s department.
