This strange cold front that passed through the Midwest was a relief to July’s oppressive heat waves. The cooler air felt like fall, and people (myself included) began to behave accordingly. My runs felt easier, people pulled out their light jackets and even the studious ambitions that accompany a new school year showed themselves. This Fashionista, busy studying for the MCAT and hosting elaborate brunches, managed to not only dress appropriately for the cooler weather, but also look effortlessly cool in her glasses and oversized T-shirt.
I absolutely love these glasses because they do what every Fashionista with less than 20/20 vision hopes her glasses do: make your face look gorgeous, make you look cool without being hipster and most importantly, save you the time of putting contacts in. While I don’t wear glasses (against the genetic odds, sorry Mom) I hope that if my vision declines with old age, I will have sense enough to pick out a pair of glasses that frame my face as well as this Fashionista’s do.
I also really love the color scheme of this outfit. Some days I love to wear bright colors and a bright lip to match, but most days a basic black and white combination speaks to my subdued character (and a desperation to copy Michael Jackson). The oversized T-shirt is perfect for days when you need to hop on your bike to go to the library or coffee shop as it is comfortable and made from a breezy material. Pairing her shirt/skirt with flats is a great way to make the casual outfit a tad bit dressier without sacrificing the comfort or ease of the rest of the outfit. Another way to go would be with a pair of low-top Converse sneakers.
And lastly, a piece of motherly, obvious but often ignored advice: bring a jacket with you! Even though it’s still summer and it’s supposed to be warm, sometimes it’s cool and you end up like me and my roommate, shivering on a train platform while all the sensible people in sweaters and denim jackets look at you smugly. Don’t be that shivering person on the platform—grab a jacket, throw your glasses on and keep it moving.
