STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Bold In Black

As the weather gets warmer, hemlines tend to get shorter and colors lighter and brighter. No matter how cliché, florals are always a favorite for spring; and as much as I love ditching winter’s bulky attire for light breezy dresses and strappy heels, I cannot ignore the weather forecast. Nothing feels worse than wasting your outfit on a night spent shivering underneath someone’s borrowed jacket. Simply put, it is difficult to find a balance between fashion and function when piecing together a cute outfit for a night out on the town.

Instead of following typical spring code, this Fashionista takes her “girl’s night out” outfit to the next level, standing out in a little black dress. The floral print in her dress as well as the lace trim around the bottom give this outfit a feminine flair. Paired with a leather jacket, statement accessories and strappy heels, this Fashionista takes her texture game to a whole new level.

So how does one rock cool spring to summer nights without feeling like an icicle? This Fashionista layers her feminine tunic with a neutral skirt and black stockings. I love stockings. They keep your legs much warmer, allow your hemlines to stay short, and look great especially if you haven’t gotten your first great tan yet. Keeping everything except her accessories black allows her statement bohemian necklace to really pop, as well as her cross-body handbag. Cross-body bags are also great for evening occasions because they allow you to keep both hands free as you dance, walk, take pictures, etc.

Sticking with neutral colors and statement jewelry makes transitional outfits a snap. If you decide to go bold in black like this Fashionista, remember to variate your textures. Check the weather forecast and include statement accessories!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Black is known for its cool vibes, chicness, aura, classy look and slimming properties (thank God). As every college Fashionista knows, when in doubt, black everything out. I live next to New York City, so inherently black runs through my veins. I styled my boho-chic, all-black outfit as homage to NYC right across the river. The open back, black floral print and lace detailing on the hem of my shift dress from Free People makes it look like black was made for the spring. Add a killer necklace with pops of white and the highest, most strappy heels you can find, and you’re ready to dominate the fashion world. CAUTION: whiplash from double takes will ensue.”
