STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Blair Waldorf In Wonderland

Now for a lot of my Fashionistas/os out there, a new year may mean a new wardrobe and creating an entirely new image. I’m here to let you know that with a new year comes a new opportunity for exploration with fashionopportunities that don’t require you to spend a dime at all. In fact, what if I were to tell you that your new wardrobe is already sitting in your closet as we speak? How is this possible, you might ask? The answer, my friends, is the art of layering!

Layering, by definition, is a way of dressing using many garments on top of one another. It serves its purpose in the winter by retaining heat, having the air trapped between the layers and used as thermal insulation. But there has always been something very fashionable about this skill. The ability to create an entirely new look just from pairing different pieces together is definitely more preferable than going out and spending money on a completely new wardrobe. Not only does it save you a couple bucks, but it sharpens your ability as a Fashionista/o with all the fun of piecing together an original look. With endless possibilities of tops, skirts, pants and dresses. You’d be surprised with what your creativity could come up with.

Channeling her inner Blair Waldorf, this Fashionista had the right idea of layering. Pairing a white turtleneck sweater with a pleated green skirt underneath her teal-blue trench coat gave this look an air of sophistication, with a subtle touch of femininity. Along with tights and a pair of quilted riding boots, this Fashionista was giving her own spin of the Upper East Side right here in wintry Connecticut.

But what made this outfit stand out to me the most wasn’t her coat, but the knitted scarf she was donning. Having pockets on both ends of the scarf not only made it fashionable, but also practical. After all, when the cold air hits, it’s great to have an extra place of warmth for your hands. Accessories also gave this look a feel of completeness. Remaining true to herself, this Fashionista rocked out her own Alex and Ani charm bracelets that spoke volumes of both her personality and style!

Try going into your closet and and pairing your different outfits together for the perfect layer. Who knows, you might come out with something totally unexpected and awesome.
