STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Black Is Always Back

The scent/flavor of pumpkin spice has taken over Penn State’s campus and so has the vibrant colors of fall. October’s earthy tones will soon be embracing our campus. This season go-to colors consist of olive, navy blue, maroon, nude and orange.

Unless you’re one to stand out of the crowd, then fall’s earthy tones may not be for you. The best way to stand out amongst colors is to wear one that contrasts them: black! Black allows you to feel classy and sleek despite the season. Don’t think you’re breaking the rules because you aren’t following the season’s color scheme. Honorable designers such as Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Comme des Garçons and Alexander Wang created all-black clothing fashion shows. Reminding consumers, all-black outfits are a fashion staple and one color that will never go out of style. Besides, wearing all-black keeps you warm for the fall weather inconsistencies.

This Fashionista knew exactly that and was spotted leaving class sporting an all-black ensemble with bold color statements. Inspired by comfort, she chose to wear an oversized Zara graphic T-shirt with split sides and a pair of black skinny H&M jeans. She proceeded to keep the outfit simple but edgy with black platform oxford shoes containing gold accents and her matching gold “fearless” Victoria’s Secret necklace. This Fashionista never leaves home without giving her outfit attitude and lots of energy. She complements her outfit with a blue lip color to match her hair and nails. How awesome is that? Her hair is her accessory! Not every outfit needs an object as an accessory. Sometimes less is more. As long as an all-black outfit has a pop of color to keep the eye of bystanders, you, my friend, have mastered wearing black.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Always be comfortable when choosing an outfit, and never be pressured to wear what’s in season if you don’t enjoy the color scheme. Stay confident, and when in doubt, black is always in fashion.”
