Another summer has passed by and I always question if I enjoyed it enough. Sometimes we focus so much in accomplishing one thing that we don’t realize what’s going on around us and before we know it time went by. But something I don’t regret is spending my summer in the city. There was no other place I rather be than working in the concrete jungle and even though I couldn’t go shopping, missed a couple of museum exhibits and didn’t get to see a Broadway musical, I gained more knowledge and met new friends that are staying with me forever. Those priceless rewards are what made my time worth it.
Something funny I also noticed during my summer is how the fashion world is not as glamorous as most people think. Actually it is simple and not outrageous but at the same time unique. I always say that it is about the little details which makes one piece different than the rest, and today’s Fashionista shows how it’s done.
She is wearing a black leather pencil skirt with a loose Topshop squared button down shirt, cut out white shoes, stripe socks and a vintage Carolina Herrera bag. This outfit shows that no matter how much black and white you incorporate to your outfit you can never go wrong with both.
Even in summer you can wear leather in the right amounts be it on shoes or skirts. Leather makes a silhouette really tailored and clean, so if you choose a pencil skirt go for a loose shirt or T-shirt for the balance of cuts.
Something I also loved about this outfit are the socks. Although many people may think is too much I say it’s perfect for her. Cut-out booties and shoes are being seen on the streets, and in this case the printed socks gave the edgy twist of her personality. You have to know what type of socks match what type of shoes. It might not work if you choose recreate Prada’s spring 2013 collection, but it would look cool if you recreate something more like Dior at London Fashion Week.
Call it New York City fashion but sometimes what you think is the simplest look might be actually what catches more attention, and for a work day you want to keep it simple yet presentable, and this Fashionista worked it. Don’t worry about jewelry and just add a vintage bag and rock mirrored sunglasses as accessories. Remember: never be afraid to try.
