STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Black And Blue And Kicking Butt

They say when you’re strong, you can leave someone black and blue. I think that the same can be said for when your outfit is kicking butt—it leaves you black and blue. When I saw this Fashionisto I thought that his outfit was not only strong, but that it exuded a cool-chic vibe.

I love wearing black and blue because I find it so flattering for most skin tones. When you are wearing a cool tone it helps to even out your skin and decrease the over all look of orange and red. Orange and red are tones that we want to stay away from for our skin.

I personally don’t think that I am cool enough to rock an oversized denim button-up shirt, but this Fashionisto effortlessly matches his with a gray graphic T-shirt. Introducing a gray tone into the outfit is the perfect way to marry the blue and black tones together. If you were to wear only denim blue and black, the contrast would be greater. The introduction of gray makes the colour palette flow. I really liked that this Fashionisto paired his button-up shirt and T-shirt with a pair of navy jogger-style pants. Since he styled his top half with flowy and oversized items, the pants that tailor into the ankles balance out the rest of the outfit.

A majority of this Fashionisto’s actual clothing are in shades of blue (with the exception of his T-shirt), while his accessories are in black. I think that this is brilliant! Black can be such a strong color so having it in your outfit in the form of stiff and solid items adds depth and dimension.

The black hat and black scarf are a fantastic touch to the outfit. Everyone needs a thick brimmed hat nowadays. Whether you want to wear a cowboy hat, a bowler hat or even a fedora, nothing screams cool like a hat. This particular scarf was handmade by this Fashinisto’s friend. I loved the strip of tribal pattern on the scarf to introduce a little punch of colour. An infinity scarf adds a nice weight to the outfit and a lot of extra texture.

What’s my advice to rock a cool-chic vibe? Pick a cool tone like blue for flowy and oversized clothing pieces and add large black accessories that have a solid feel to them. You want to add weight and depth to your outfit with your accessories. To achieve an oversized look just pick shirts that are one or two sizes larger than your normal size.

Follow my advice and you’ll be kicking style butt in no time.
