STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Beat Up Sneaks

An aspect of fashion I have always found to be intriguing is the give and take of masculine and feminine fashion. The meaning and definition of gender is changing faster than it ever has before, and that has definitely affected trends and fashion as well. While the runways show it through more formal pieces like a trouser or more stiff oxfords, I have been interested in what this trend has done with footwear, specifically sneakers.

One thing I have noticed is that sneakers can be worn with nearly anything now. Nike and Adidas and many more sportswear companies have immersed themselves into street fashion like never before, specifically women’s street fashion. What that has done has changed the entire standard of what shoe can be worn by who. Consequently, sneakers are being worn in so many new ways and different styles.

This Fashionista demonstrates a very unique and different way to use the new role of sneakers. While the combination of Converse sneakers and a dress may not be the most shocking trend or look someone can wear, the duo does make a statement. The intricate embellishments on this boho shift dress set the tone for an elegant and sophisticated outfit, and the chocolate brown Converse high-tops send the opposite message. When you pair them together, the shoes tone down the look, and the outfit as a whole gives off a very earthy vibe. The pearl choker adds to the boho earthy look.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Just make sure that your style matches your personality. The people who I think have the biggest fashion presence are people who look the most comfortable in their clothes and themselves in the clothes. Dressing as something you’re not is never a good look.”
