I don’t know about you, but I take at least ten minutes every morning trying to decide whether I want to look cute or be comfortable. Since I’m all about comfort, I usually choose the sweatshirt-jeans-UGGs route, which causes people to give me incredulous looks when I tell them that I’m a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista.
However, the other day, I came across the perfect outfit that embodies both comfy coziness and stellar fashion sense.
This Fashionista rocked a pair of cotton floral pants from Forever 21 that was tucked into relaxed, cowboy brown Steve Madden ankle boots. On top, she wore a thick button-up oxblood sweater from H&M with a basic T-shirt on the inside. To accessorize, she threw on a red infinity scarf and an awesome leather vintage-inspired messenger bag from Etsy.
Let’s talk about her color scheme for a moment. Oxblood seems to be the hottest color of the season for a few reasons. One is that it is a hybrid of neutrality and vibrancy. It enables the wearer to pull off red clothing without drawing too much attention to him/herself. This Fashionista toned down her sweater by pairing it with a mostly-black pair of pants. Nonetheless, she was still able to look bright and brilliant through the popping red color of her infinity scarf and pink and yellow colors of the flowers on her pants.
If you are like me and no longer want to choose between feeling unrestrained or looking presentable, this is the outfit for you. Start by getting yourself a basic, oversized, thick sweater. This type of sweater is a staple for the cold-weather season, since it is warm and fashionable. There are many different colors and styles, including open-front, button-up and pullover. Each style looks great and will prevent your upper body from becoming an icicle. Next, pick out a pair of fun patterned pants. Since your sweater should be simple, your pants can be as crazy as you desire. Floral and tribal prints are popular this season, as well as celestial patterns. The fit of the pants does not matter too much, since both looser fit pants and tighter leggings will look adorable with the sweater. Lastly, throw on ankle boots, flats, Converse, Vans or even closed-toe wedges. Either one will go well with the pants and the sweater.
You have a lot of freedom with this outfit and I mean that both in a physical and metaphorical sense. How you wear this outfit depends on heavily on your personal preferences. Regardless, you will be comfortable, which means that you will feel great, which means that you will look fabulous. Happy shopping!
