STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Be All, Overalls

Once used as protective attire for mechanics in the early 20th century, overalls have evolved into high-quality leisure wear popular in summertime fashion. A twist to this boho throwback, shortalls are exactly what they sound like: short overalls. Overalls come in different shapes, colors and sizes. From the classic denim to patterned fabric, cutoffs to skirtalls, overalls are definitely the go-to garment in modern fashion.

Fashion in 2015 clearly encompasses trends of the past, entwined together with a modern touch. Today, we ran into this Fashionista sporting this upcoming season’s favorite. We see here that her outfit is heavily influenced by the ’80s and ’90s. As reflected by her shortalls and jelly shoes, this look is reminiscent of a simpler time. I can almost hear Sheena Easton playing in the background as I look back at these photos.

“I like to wear this outfit when I try to feel like I’m five years old again,” she joked. I guess it’s time I invest in my own pair of jelly shoes, too.

Our Fashionista’s mint blue jelly sandals bring out the blue flowers printed on her bustier top. Her assortment of bracelets adds an extra pop of color to the ensemble. Paired with the large floppy sun hat and cat eye sunglasses, this effortless outfit is perfect for a casual outing on a hot summer’s day.

Feeling chilly? Wear a patterned sweater underneath the overalls. If you’re going for a dressier vibe, switch out the bustier top with a button-up shirt! Add on a statement necklace, a nice clutch and bright-colored heels to finish up the look.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “They’re comfy and easy, like a dress, but more casual and less common, so they tend to make more of a statement. I also baby-sit later today, so they are better for that hands-on kind of work.”
