STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Baby Blues

It’s almost time to say “adios” to the winter blues. After months of being cooped up in our apartments, dreading every minute we have to leave the comfort of our homes to face the brutal wind chill and below zero temperatures, it seems like this moment can’t come soon enough.

But although you may be saying bye to the winter blues in the next few weeks, there’s “something blue” you shouldn’t say bye to quite yet—a blue wardrobe!

Light blue pieces have been making a splash in recent runway shows. Calming and cool, these pieces brighten up any outfit with their ocean-like feel, and the restful blue can even act as a stress reliever.

So when I spotted this Fashionista and her adorable oversized light blue coat, I couldn’t help but fall in love with her look. Maybe it was the calming effect of her blue coat that drew me toward her, or maybe it was the awesome combination of pieces that caught my eye. Either way, this Fashionista rocked a fantastic ensemble that is perfect for the warm, sunshine-filled spring days.

The base pieces in her look are simple and classic, but they pair perfectly with the light blue coat. She decided to wear a pair of black high-waisted skinny jeans, black Dr. Martens and a black and white striped T-shirt.

What I liked about her look was the contrast between the dark bottom pieces and the lighter ones on top. The dark black pants and Dr. Martens ooze rocker chick, while the soft color and shape of the coat is calmer and more feminine. There was something so visually appealing about the black and white striped shirt underneath her baby blue coat. To complete the look, she added a red leather backpack and some pearl earrings—the perfect accessories!

So with spring right around the corner, make sure to invest in some baby blue hues, whether it’s a dress, a coat or even a pair of shoes. Light blue is sure to be a must-have color for 2015!
