STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Aztec Attack

Winter has come and it has conquered Happy Valley, leaving behind an army of bundled, shivering students doing their best not to become icicles. During frigid months like this, it often becomes a bit more difficult to alter an ensemble under layers of puffy parkas and clunky snowboots, leaving many Fashionistos/as feeling a bit drab and uninspired. Luckily for me, I was fortunate enough to spot this stylish guy on a bit of a warmer day so I could catch a glimpse of his awesome Aztec button-down.

The Aztec trend has been on the upswing for a while now, crossing over into both men’s and women’s fashion pretty seamlessly. The trend has been highly successful for many skate and surf brands like Hurley and Billabong, and heavily in demand in stores such as Urban Outfitters and PacSun. The season I would generally associate this trend with is summer, but with the recent influx of cold weather-aimed Aztec pieces like button-downs, jackets and joggers, fashionable guys and gals are finding ways to incorporate the Southwest-style trend into their winter wardrobe as well. This stylish guy paired his brown, beige and red printed button-down with a pair of dark gray pants and winter boots. He topped off the look with a throwback Miller High Life pompom beanie for added warmth.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Be true to yourself and wear things you feel good in. Don’t worry about what trend everyone else is wearing, just go for what makes you feel like you.”
