STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Athleisure at Leisure

Whether working out or at work, the “who what wear” of the moment seems to be the athleisure aesthete. Unlike wearing yoga pants or running shorts to work, this trend incorporates sleek leggings and joggers that fit just as well plastered on street style front pages as the on the track.

Day-to-night look no longer needed: With athleisure closing in on the fashion meets function gap, this tailored tracksuit look takes you from work or lit class to yoga class, no quick-change required. Essentially encapsulating the space age all-in-one future suit this new normcore is THE look for today’s ever on-the-go lifestyle. Pairing a Fifth Avenue-esque trench with a pair Nike Flyknits is the new “It.”

This Fashionista was seen sporting her own atelier-labeled athleticwear. Literally dressed head-to-toe in Nike, she strutted a pair of white Nike Air Huarches and a classic Nike swoosh baseball cap. (And, ’round these parts, it’s Nike territory. As much a namedrop as a Fashion Week airport, wearing athleisure wear around Detroit is like going for the gold if you’re in Nike, with a recent flagship store just opened downtown proper.)

For the home stretch of her look, this Fashionista continued on with her stroll through activewear namedropping—in between the black and white of her kicks and cap, she worked a grey Calvin Klein Jeans muscle top and a pair of detail-oriented leggings (presumably lululemon, to top off the trifecta). With her makeup and hair, she kept it basic as can be—the key to the “atheisure wear, don’t care” look for Fashionistas and Fashionistos—by staying overall fresh-faced but going à la Cara Delevingne with her brows.

Yes, athleisure has taken workout basics to the next level by replacing neons with neutrals, and forming a fluidity in multitasking. In fact, almost making it an ideal. Athleisurewear says “look at me, I have the time to work and play and wear the names to prove it,” (even if you really don’t).

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I was just running out, but wanted to look good…All day though, I’m still surprised people keep telling me how put-together I look in just leggings and Nikes. This outfit is my no-sweat it look, in all aspects.”
