“One time, I saw Cady Heron wearing army pants and flip-flops, so I bought army pants and flip-flops.”
So maybe today’s Fashionisto isn’t Cady Heron of Tina Fey’s epic movie, Mean Girls, and maybe those tough combat boots aren’t flip-flops, but the consensus remains: Everyone needs to buy this outfit.
I have always been a huge fan of fun pants. Luckily, I have since traded in my Limited Too bright pink zip-away capris for more sophisticated bright pink linens. The way I see it, any colored pant can be a neutral; mashing and clashing colors and prints is a staple of college fashion. I urge you to forget the old-fashioned concept of a fashion faux pas… Except tapered jeans and denim skorts — you can stay in the ’90s where you belong.
This Fashionisto exemplified just how a patterned pant can still be neutral. The camo print is edgy, but the worn colors keep it understated. He paired the pants with a muscle V-neck in a heather navy, but a tee in a bright red or cool green could have also put a cool spin on the look. For an even bolder military-inspired look, try camo pants with an unconventional tan color palette.
Keeping with the edgy masculinity, today’s Fashionisto tucked his straight leg bottoms into cool combat boots. Leaving the top undone keeps the whole look effortless and rugged. Wear some classic Dr. Martens for a reliable and classic look. This Fashionisto completed his military-esque look with an easy black beanie.
This week, bring a little camo back while keeping in mind that any pant can be neutral if you wish it to be. Also, in the spirit of Mean Girls, remember that butter is indeed a carb.
