STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: An Unlikely Duo

I don’t know about you, but I know I have a drawer full of old band tees from middle school at home (yes, I went through an extreme band tee phase. I’d like to thank my mom and Hot Topic for their support). At this point, I’m so attached that I couldn’t dream of getting rid of them. Well, if you’re anything like me, I have the long-awaited solution to this dilemma. The good news is that it’s super easy to make these shirts trendy and cool, especially for fall. Although, us Floridians know that “fall” is just basically a continuation of summer.

This week’s Fashionista paired her thrifted vintage ZZ Top T-shirt with silky lace shorts from Urban Outfitters. Since lace shorts have been an ongoing trend, it’ll be easy to cop a pair for yourself. If you don’t already have a band T-shirt, Etsy is a goldmine of vintage band tees ranging from $20 to $300 dollars. Hot Topic is always a great go-to for more affordable options. Her studded black sandals add an extra grunge touch to the outfit.

By pairing a black band T-shirt with a simple pair of lacy shorts, you can turn a bland tee into a fashion staple. This look is the perfect mix of grunge and girly. For a slightly sportier vibe, you can trade out the Birkenstock-esque sandals for a pair of white Keds.

The accessories really help to complete this look. This Fashionista’s matte cat eye sunglasses will be perfect for those sunny walks to class. Her simple gold Fossil watch adds just enough accessory to her wrist. Thin gold necklaces and rings add a girly touch to the outfit without distracting from her statement tee. Script name necklaces add personality to a look and can be worn with just about anything.

Pairing unlikely items can result in a unique, refreshing look. In this case, it was a punk T-shirt and girly lace shorts. This proves that opposites really do attract.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I think it’s fun to wear a name tag (except a lot cooler and gold) around my neck as a way of saying who I am… without saying who I am. It goes with everything and I never take it off because my name makes me who I am. Try mixing different styles, like girly and grunge. I enjoy contrasting my clothes, like I get to show that I am lazy by wearing a T-shirt, but also feminine because of my lace shorts.”
