STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: All Layered Up

This past winter, we saw layering come into play in a whole new way. Sweaters layered over dresses or button-downs became a major component of street style (especially in New York). The trend didn’t end once the weather heated up. Hermès, Stella McCartney and Dior all featured this trend in their spring shows. I feel that this trend is here to stay, and what I find to be interesting is how varied this look can be.

This Fashionista demonstrates the boho side of this look. She channels her inner Free People and pulls it off flawlessly. The pattern in her dress goes perfectly with the solid blue in her sweater. While both the dress and the sweater are loose, the sweater is cropped in at her waist which makes the outfit more flattering and less baggy. The Fashionista’s off-white and gold bracelet and necklace add some sophistication and detail. The Birkenstock sandals complete her look by going along with her bohemian style.

An example of the other end of the spectrum of layering would be a sheer beige sweater layered over a chiffon or linen button-down for your top, paired with cropped cigarette pants or a skirt for the bottom. An outfit like this would be perfect for anything professional or sophisticated. Trends like these are ones to really utilize because they can be done in so many different ways.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Simplicity is key. If you’re wearing an intricate pattern, you don’t need a ton of or any jewelry. Even when it comes to jewelry, I often find that less is more.”
