The cold September breeze is slowly but surely setting in, putting us in that awkward state of transition. No one is ever really sure whether it’s summer or autumn, or if it’s socially acceptable to wear a coat in this month regardless of how cold you actually feel. More often than not that one time you take the risk and wear the coat, the sun comes out as soon as you step outside your front door.
It’s all about layering up. Take this Fashionista for example; she has paired a black, sheer chiffon shirt with a firework print with a black tank top underneath for extra warmth. The bright yellows and pinks of the firework print gives this outfit a real pop of colour against this Fashionista’s pairing of the shirt with black nylon leggings from American Apparel and black Underground Creepers.
This Fashionista may favour black, but in no way is she channeling Morticia Addams. By paring the outfit with leggings, which graze the ankle, frilly detail socks from Topshop and a vintage, light wash, Levi’s denim jacket the black is broken up and doesn’t merge into one.
The difference in texture of the black pieces also aids to break up the black on black illusion, for example this Fashionista has chosen to pair chiffon with nylon, which has a shiny finish, allowing the eye to differentiate them as two separate pieces.
Keeping it simple, yet eclectic by accessorizing the outfit with an assortment of silver rings and necklaces from her travels, this Fashionista is ready for class, after class drinks with friends and most importantly the weak September sun.
