As by now you may know, while I love seeing color in other people’s wardrobes, I, myself, am rarely inclined to wear anything but black, white and gray. And while summer calls for exceptions to my largely neutral wardrobe, even in the winter, fall and spring, I admit to rarely sometimes being struck with the inclination to brighten my dark wardrobe. While others might go about doing so by incorporating colored denim, patterned prints or a color-blocked top into their outfit, I have always preferred a more subtle approach in my own outfits. Whether it’s with a pop of color or a hint of shine, a touch of brightness is always the perfect way to add a bit of life to a dreary day. With our sunny spring breaks (seemingly already decades) behind us, this Fashionista took her own approach at adding a touch of sunshine to her day.
This Fashionista started out with a simple outfit, but through her accessories, she put together a cohesive and detailed outfit. Layers were key to keeping warm and looking good, and her several layers of neutral clothing added dimension and texture to her outfit. A black and white scarf tied in the darker colors in her clothing while adding a touch of brightness. Her one colored article of clothing, a red hat, also served as a great accessory, adding an unexpected element to her look. The color served as the perfect addition, acting as a color primitive enough to complement her black and gray outfit.
Of course, this post would not be complete without mention of her shoes. The silvery boots added my favorite touch of shine to her outfit, and the glossy exterior of her Dr. Martens acted as a statement without overpowering the rest of her outfit.
Try experimenting this week with various statement accessories and a neutral outfit. Let your own style inspire you in your attempt to use multiple accessories to fashion a casual and subdued, yet detailed and edgy, outfit.
