STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Ad(dress)ing Summer Laziness

Summer is well under way, Netflix binges are in full swing and the A/C is on blast. Whether you’re in summer classes or doing nothing and losing track of what day it is (*slowly raises my hand*), there’s a struggle that can arise in this season. Maybe it’s the heat or maybe it’s the child within who rages against any form of responsibility, but some days it’s nearly impossible to muster up the energy to put together a proper outfit. It’s an inner struggle of wanting to look cute, but at what cost? We just want to relax, break out our oversized T-shirts, leggings and flip flops or do the classic “I’m dressed in workout clothes with zero intentions of actually working out look” (I do this more than I care to admit). But behold, fellow Fashionistas! I’ve found a simple, comfortable, and breezy remedy for this terminal case of summer style apathy! Drumroll please…

It’s a dress! Groundbreaking, I know. But really, can we take a minute to remember how great casual dresses are? They’re entire outfits made from one swatch of material, can be put on with one fluid motion and immediately make you look fancy! They’re absolutely genius and the lazy girl’s lifesaver. The one worn by this Fashionista was yet another victorious Zara find. It comes in a variety of colors, which is great, but I especially love this bright red for summer. Picking a casual dress in such a lovely color is a simple way to make a statement.

Clothes that sit well on the body make all the difference. If you’re uncomfortable and constantly having to shift around in your clothing, it shows, and the entire look can be ruined. But as this Fashionista has found, the cut of this flared sheath dress is amazing for comfort, but also boasts a flattering silhouette. She feels confident because “it is flowy and doesn’t hug anything too tightly.”

This dress is sure to make a good impression on its own, even without a ton of accessories. When dealing with such a bold color, it’s a good idea to keep it simple with jewelry. Here you can see that the small vintage watch this Fashionista chose adds a nice touch to the overall look (similar watches can be found here and here). Another great perk to this type of dress is that it can be dressed up or down according to your mood. If you’re up to the challenge and feeling more boho, add some strappy gladiator sandals—lace-up at your own risk!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Just dress yourself well. Represent yourself to the best of your ability, and never underestimate the power of a nice dress. And just chill out because you’re never fully dressed without a smile!”
