STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize

August 6th, 2015 at 2:00am

In talking with some of my close friends, we’ve all agreed that the beginning of August is the portion of summer in which we get extremely sick of our wardrobes. Our new purchases have been worn multiple times, therefore making them no longer exciting, and our minds are starting to focus on fall fashion trends as the stores debut their new lines. However, with the sudden heat wave, fall fashion is far away from reality. In order to get through the next month feeling confident about your summertime looks, try refreshing them with new (or old) accessories. This way, even some of your most redundant looks will appear different and unique.

This Fashionista is a perfect example of how to spruce up a summertime look with a few simple accessories. The green shorts paired with a basic black camisole add an interesting element to the look, but what really attracted me to the outfit is her headband. The color is a rich, beautiful shade of purple which looks perfect paired with the green shorts. The intricate detailing of a peace sign in green pulls the whole look together so that the purple is just the right pop of color without being too obvious. Next, her layered necklaces add a summertime feel to the outfit that I love. The gold and beige colors really brighten up the darker shades of the rest of her pieces. Beads and tassels have been a huge jewelry trend this season, and her necklace incorporates them in a subtle, relaxed manner that matches the rest of her laid back pieces. Lastly, it’s pretty obvious that this Fashionista’s ankle boots are perfection. The cutouts around the ankle make them the ideal boots for summertime. The whole look appears much more fashionable with the incorporation of the black leather ankle boots as opposed to regular sandals or sneakers, so definitely try pairing ankle boots with your outfits next time you want to spice up your summertime pieces.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Layering accessories is key. Sometimes one single necklace or bracelet makes the outfit appear more formal, so wearing three or four pieces not only embellishes the outfit, but also may make it appear more casual depending on the type of jewelry. Definitely try incorporating beaded jewelry instead of the usual jeweled ones, too.”
