They say, “April showers bring May flowers,” but by the looks of it, it seems that the sun is taking its good old time making its appearance. Rain and more rain has been on the weekly forecast and I think it’s safe to say that we are all ready for the sun to start shining and the temperatures to rise. Being that we are stuck in these somewhat dreary days, it can be difficult to pick outfits suitable for the on and off droplets and peek-a-boo sunshine, if we’re lucky. While brainstorming outfit ideas of my own, I was lucky enough to find this Fashionista that conquered these bland days and approached them with a bang!
The maxi skirt has been a popular item for some time but I love the multiple phases it has gone through. From just being a staple summer piece to transitioning into multiple seasons, I find it to be a piece that is definitely going to be around for a while. With varying patterns and fabrics, it is almost impossible to fail at finding the perfect maxi skirt for your body and occasion. Just at this past Met Gala, Emma Stone rocked a raspberry pink maxi with a high split it in and looked better than the majority of the celebrities there. I have always been an avid fan of the maxi and the way this Fashionista incorporated it into her outfit is so chic.
I love how she made her maxi skirt the basic piece of her match up and then worked around it. She paired a solid, black jersey material maxi with a cut-off graphic black T-shirt that I later learned was from Forever 21. While this duo was edgy yet simple all by itself, she took it up to fit the mid 50s weather with a red, white and black flannel unbuttoned over top. A flannel is a great way to add an extra layer when the temperatures are still a little chilly. She finished off her simple grunge look with a pair of braided rainbow sandals and some small necklaces that she layered over one another.
I know that many of us want to bring out the bright colors and florals to welcome summer, but it is still okay to rock the dark especially during these gray and gloomy days. Until we finally see the sun, try an outfit similar to this during the rainy days that seem to be lingering. By placing items such as thin flannels with a pair of sandals and a maxi, you’ll have an outfit that will meet the requirement for style and warmth. Hold on to those cut-offs and crop tops though, you’ll need them before we know it…hopefully!
