Style Advice of the Week

Do you ever try on an outfit and something isn’t quite right? You just need a little something extra? Maybe you feel too plain or too flashy. Maybe you’re missing the right accessory or perfect pair of shoes. I know I’ve been in this position many times and I’ll stand in front of the mirror trying to figure out what my outfit is missing. In most cases, I find that a small fix can change my whole ensemble. This Fashionista is a perfect example of how little things can make all the difference.

Each piece of this Fashionista’s outfit contributes something to her overall look. Her leopard print skirt is what first drew my eyes to her. Its pattern is subdued with neutral tones, but adds emphasis and interest when paired with the solid top. A solid top is a great choice with any patterned or printed bottom; this prevents your whole outfit from looking too busy. But this Fashionista’s royal purple tank is anything but boring. It has a slight shimmer that catches the light as she moves. The gold sheen is the extra touch that allowed her top to be a statement piece on its own and the pop of color that’s needed to brighten the overall neutral look. Lastly, this stylish Chippewa adds strappy brown wedges and a tan hat. These accessories are small touches that pull the ensemble together.

To get a similar summer look, pair this leopard printed skater skirt from Aeropostale with this shimmery tank from Nordstrom. Then add these GoJane wedges and this hat from Karmaloop for a little something extra.

So next time you’re standing in front of the mirror wondering what’s missing from your outfit, remember the little things! A cute hat, a fun print or a cool texture could be all you need to complete your look. A little extra can go a long way.
