The STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK column that I write every week is all about the latest trends this summer. While a lot of the trends that I have written about have been fads that will eventually fade out, some of them are simply newer takes on a classic look. The little black dress, for example, is a wardrobe staple for women worldwide. In order for Coco Chanel’s timeless legend to survive, however, it has had to be reinvented and revamped countless times to keep up with what’s “in.” Every girl should have a plain and simple LBD that she can pull out in case of a fashion emergency and accessorize differently. At the same time, though, it’s still a good idea to have one with a little more flare. Any additions/embellishments/extra touches to the dress will instantly turn this commonplace piece into a trendy one. After all, just about every girl owns an LBD so you might as well make yours stand out.
I love this Fashionista’s fresh take. Without the extra material on the back of her dress, her LBD would be just like any other. The cape-like addition to her unique boutique find, however, adds personality. It gives her outfit a little something extra; her look not only exudes fun and femininity like most dresses, it also radiates confidence and power. Furthermore, her accessories are simple yet still make a statement. The necklace and anklet heels tie the outfit together, and the earrings and ring serve as little complements to each piece of her look.
The Savvy department at Nordstrom is known for its trendy clothes, and I always find the coolest little black dresses there. Whether it’s a drop waist, fringe, a draped overlay or a beaded hem, each dress has something that will make you feel like you’re wearing a one-of-a-kind. Right now I am loving leather for fall and back to school so I am obsessing over this black Oasis dress with a leather look front.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I always try and choose one statement piece for an outfit, whether it is the outfit itself or just the jewelry. I like to keep it pretty simple to make my outfits look more fashionable.”
