STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: A Dress Diversion

Weekends are the perfect time to play with your clothes. Without having to rush from class to class across campus, it’s easier to commit to a dressier look without worrying about confronting complications. Except for the one big obstacle during the Midwest’s transitional seasons, the weather. On a Saturday afternoon, this Fashionista caught my eye because of her smart use of layering and radiation of cool city vibes.

The way she wore this dress more similar to a skirt made her outfit eye-catching. Mastering the concept of layering is key to living in Wisconsin because of the wavering weather, but this was a unique twist on the typical layering tricks. You can wear almost anything over a dress from graphic T-shirts to slouchy sweaters like this one. Don’t be afraid to shake it up! Styling a dress in various ways is helpful for getting more money out of it. This trend can take form with belts, folding or just straight up layering like this Fashionista did!

This trend is pivotal because it adds an element of surprise. Its practicality is also useful since the extra layer can easily be slipped on and off. The accessories are of major assistance in bringing this look together as well. This Fashionista was wearing a long dangling necklace with an iridescent crystal that caught the light differently with every step, an oversized bag and aviator sunglasses. I have become a firm believer in sporting sunglasses all 365 days of the year. Besides protecting your eyes from radiation, they also make the wearer look more cool and mysterious. These accessories all worked together with the dress masquerading as a skirt to create an easy and effortless yet fashionable look.

If you live in a chillier state, take advantage of the warm weather while you can and use style hacks like this one to remain prepared for whatever changes get thrown your way. Accessorize with simple yet beautiful pieces, throw on some sunnies and you have a perfect city-chic ensemble.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Winter in the Midwest is always confusing. Usually, it’s freaking cold, but you’ll find that there are a handful of days where the temperatures jump to be above 50 degrees. When that happens, everyone is outside enjoying the warm weather. Due to the weather, I’ve been wearing a lot of denim. So, I always flock to dresses as soon as the weather permits. I threw on a simple black dress, paired with tights and a warm overweight sweater. It’s an easy Saturday afternoon look.”
