STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: ’90s All Day

Designer Marc Jacobs was one of the first designers to create a collection inspired by grunge street movement. That was back in the ’90s when bands like Nirvana created a music genre and certain fashion style in Seattle. Plaid, denim and chunky combat boots are looks often associated with grunge fashion. Right now we all pretty much know about grunge since the ’90s has been such a huge inspiration in current fashion.

Have you seen the spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection by Saint Laurent? If not, this is a great collection to see that grunge is a style inspiration that is current for this season and next season. This Fashionista has created the perfect grunge-worthy outfit. What really stands out to me is that she created a classic ’90s-inspired look by pairing denim with a chunky combat boot. Dr. Martens boots are easily the most recognizable brand of boots and the right choice to pair with a denim jacket.

The best option to create a ’90s-inspired look is to find a jacket that has a vintage wash. I find that lighter-colored denim works best for summer. The shape of the jacket could be similar to a classic trucker jacket or motorcycle jacket. A denim motorcycle jacket is great for more of an updated and modern look. But the style and cut of the jacket depends on the person’s preference.

What is the best accessory for a ’90s-inspired look? I love the fact this Fashionista completed her look with simple accessories that are also on trend. Her round frame Ray-Ban sunglasses are a current trend in sunglasses.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “My advice of the week is making sure the accessories you pick with an outfit are currently on-trend. I always try to make sure my looks are current.”
