STYLE ADVICE: New Year, New You

As the new year begins and January brings Texas weather a little bit below, it’s time once again to figure out those New Year’s resolutions. If you haven’t picked one already, it’s easiest to stick to the classics, especially if Austin suddenly goes below freezing overnight, and what better resolution than to start working out more? Yet, deciding what to wear when you hit the gym is almost as important as getting there. During winter, it’s even harder to motivate yourself, but sometimes it’s uplifting to look in the mirror and give yourself words of affirmation. You can feel comfortable in your athletic wear and feel like a start in it as well with only a couple of tips.

The first is to pull out the colors. Not only are brighter colors a great way to make yourself feel bold and confident, but pastels can inspire serenity. While the pants hold the brightest colors in this look, the colors in the shirt and sports bra tie the outfit together. Playing with subtle colors, like the peach found in the tank top and the mint green in the sports bra, creates a balance in the outfit that can help relax you. Staying on top of your exercise schedule out can be stressful, so finding a way to make yourself a little more calm during your routine can help make working out more enjoyable.

Secondly, try to find accessories which won’t annoy you while moving about. Here, a simple golden necklace does the trick. Adding a hint of the minimalism trend, the necklace helps to make the look wearable even outside of the gym. Either grocery shopping before heading to the gym or making a trip to the mall after finishing your cardio, finding the right accessories for your athletic look is always helpful. As someone who is rarely seen without a necklace, I think it’s important to try to find that staple piece that can be worn with anything, even your athletic wear.

Finally, my third tip is to find the perfect pair of shoes. Just like Cinderella and her glass slippers, shoes can make or break your workout. However, shopping for sneakers that are not only comfortable, but cute and affordable is not an easy task. In this look, these Saucony shoes are a subtle gray allowing them great wearability. They also can be worn with a pair of jeans, a casual day dress, or even a jersey romper.

As the saying goes, it’s a new year and a new you. So, why not add a touch of your style to your resolution this year?
