STYLE ADVICE: Keeping Up with the Coats

If you haven’t heard we have six more weeks of winter! That means we are pulling out all of the stops and getting those nice coats out. Layering is key when it comes to dressing for this weather.

Personally, at Kent State we are notorious for having warm weather in 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit one day, and the next day you are putting on a parka, scarf, hat, gloves, and long underwear, because there was a blizzard overnight.

It doesn’t change that you always have to be prepared for the worst. If that means having 20 layers ready to go, do it with style! This Fashionista attends the Fashion School as well. I saw this look in passing on her way to class and had to get some pictures. She wore a thick wool textured coat, a turtleneck sweater with zipper detailing, cuffed blue denim jeans, a brown leather bag, and black pumps. Playing up those neutrals and soft colors, she can wear this anywhere from class to a nice dinner out with friends after a long day.

Key takeaways from this is that you must keep in mind that as students, the top priority is to be comfortable. Then comes the priorities of am I going into the Fashion School today? Do I have to give a presentation today? Do I have to go to work after this? As a student, it is imperative to have a wardrobe that will suit those everyday needs. Not all students have the ability to have or use a car on such a large campus, so preparation is key.

By sticking with neutrals, this Fashionista was able to tone down her outfit and not have anything too overpowering. She still stood out with the clean cut coat and classic pump, but it was elegant and poised so she could wear it anywhere and it had versatility if she had other events throughout the day.
