STYLE ADVICE FOR THE WEEK: Haute for the Holidays

Hello again, fellow Fashionistas! Is it just me or has this fall season come and gone within a blink of an eye? It does not seem like the holidays are creeping around the corner but they surely are. I am here to help you lessen your festivity load by considering what holiday styles are already in your closet. Do not get me wrong, I prefer to go out to shop for my holiday outfits, but staying away malls packed with other last minute shoppers always sounds like a better option. This comfortable but chic outfit consists of basics every Fashionista should already have in her closet.

A knit bodycon dress is a faultless option for any occasion—casual to formal. In this case, this dress has a mock turtleneck which offers a more appropriate option for colder weather. The cerulean follows the color trend for this fall and winter season and provides a twist to the traditional holiday colors we dress for. Pairing the dress with black, opaque tights creates a modest style for family occasions. And really, who doesn’t want to stay warm while wearing a dress this winter?

The practicality of an insulated blazer worn over a dress in the winter months is underrated. Don’t run to snatch those pea coats out like every other day; you don’t need to go overboard for a special occasion. Simple pieces can work as well as those statement pieces if they are styled just right. Black mid-calf boots are another shoe that I see every Fashionista sporting this season. Everyone has their tall boots from high school and their short booties from recent seasons. This year, the focus is on the mid-calf boots.

Another staple piece used is a black, wide-brimmed, felt hat. A simple piece but styled with the other black selections continues the elegance this outfit conveys. Here is the part I tell my Fashionistas, do not be afraid of gold! Gold is not just the jewelry choice of our grandmothers anymore. Mixing and matching metals have been in trend for seasons now. Now take a try at all gold accessories this season! This gold chain link necklace does all the talking to bring this outfit together.

The holidays are a joyous time for many of us. Don’t fret worrying what to wear, just consider what you already own. Re-imagining pieces of your collection into new outfits is feel good for any Fashionista. Go overboard not on your outfit, but in gift giving, caring for and loving each other this holiday season.
