STYLE ADVICE: Denim on Denim

Although it seems like NYC can’t seem to make up its mind about the weather, something I have been set on is mixing denim with denim. If you were to ask me five years ago, I’d be slightly concerned upon the idea. However, it seems like this year’s trend is of the comeback trends! This Fashionista perfectly demonstrates how she pulls off denim on denim and I’ll be sharing some tip and tricks to doing so.

One big thing about pairing denim with denim is to make sure that the denims are mixed in wash and weight! I think this is one of the most important details to keep in mind when trying to pull of multiple pieces of denim. The Fashionista has pair a medium blue wash, oversize denim jacket with an almost white but light blue destroyed wash of boyfriend jeans. The versatility in wash and texture allows the pieces to complement each other while keeping a contrast.

Another tip I’d like to give about wearing denim on denim is to pair it with something that is simple yet effective. This Fashionista wore a basic white T-shirt under her jacket and black platform booties to keep the colors leaning towards the neutral spectrum. Lastly, and probably my favorite, is the Fashionista’s trendy clear glasses. The round Harry Potter looking accessory has been so in lately and completes every outfit with a flare. Her small and tasteful earrings and necklace fulfills the entire look.

Something I would say to stay away from when going for this look is to obviously match the wash but, more importantly, try staying away from any Western inspired accessories unless you’re going for a cowboy/girl look. Pairing denim on denim with a cowboy boots or a hat or even a belt that may look Western may make you’re outfit appear too similar to something you may not be trying to achieve (unless you are).

So next time you’re feeling daring about wearing your denim jacket with a pair of jeans, don’t be afraid to explore and play with the weight and washes of the denim. See what you are comfortable with and dress it up or down. As always, I’d love to see what you guys come up with so feel free to tag me in some of your inspired looks on social media. Until next time!
